• Historical overview of the development of ethnomusicology.
• Contemporary concepts, theories, and methods.

• Emphasis on the following ethnomusicological concepts and theories: critical perspective on history of ethnomusicology, research ethics, music ethnography, and relations between music and meaning, race, ethnicity, gender, social class, economy, commodification, globalization, diaspora, tourism, technology, community, construction of authenticity, »world music« concept, ethnomusicology of popular and Western art music.

• Relations among folk music research, comparative musicology, and modern ethnomusicology, and between the practice of ethnomusicology in Slovenia and elsewhere in the world.
• Ethnomusicology and other scholarly disciplines.
• Important ethnomusicologists, institutions, societies and literature in Slovenia and elsewhere.
• The path from fieldwork to the publishing of an ethnomusicological study.
• Introduction to ethnochoreology and ethno-organology.
• Selected topics from the practice of ethnomusicology worldwide.

The tutorial includes 20 hours of field practice in the form of visits to institutions related to music and ethnomusicology.
