The overview includes four thematically and chronologically fairly rounded units:
- the period of music modernism from the end of the 19th century until World War I;
- the period of the New Objectivity, which discusses the music of the period between the two World Wars;
- the period of the avant-gardes, which deals with music produced from the end of World War II until the 60s, and
- the period of music postmodernism, which discusses the music produced from the 60s until today.
Every year, the lectures focus on an overview of the entire problematic and also offer an in-depth analysis of the chosen music-historical topic. In that way, the student acquires a fairly detailed insight into one of the issues by looking at the context in which it is situated within a given time frame.
