The course sets the theoretical framework for understanding the socio-historical structuring of sociology in the field of education. Starting from modern knowledge systems, from the transition of the 17th to the 18th century, the subject addresses the ways in which knowledge and its organization and institutionalization shape subjects, social, political and economic practices, and thus (re)produce different regulative ideas, inscribed in the theories, policies and practices of education. Against this background we will analyse and conceptualise various regulative ideas, their shifts, ruptures and continuities, and the ways in which the problems of individual and social life shape a set of educational issues and problematizations over time.
The student learns the basic concepts of sociology of education and uses them to problematize selected relationships of education and:
- Democracy,
- social inequalities and justice,
- economics,
- families,
- modern educational policy and practice,
- gender, … .
