Music Theory 3B S

Through an analysis of selected musical works, the lectures consist of:
• Analysing and refreshing the definitions of concepts and methods of music analysis.
• Analysing the connections and co-dependence of the formal structure and musical components with focus on chords and twelve-tone technique.
• Learning about different compositional techniques, approaches and styles after 1900.
• Learning about and aural identification the particularities of personal styles of selected composers of this period.
• Identifying connections between compositional techniques and approaches of different periods.

The seminar serves to refresh and deepen the knowledge of selected composers' poetics and their individual compositional solutions using concrete examples (F. Schubert, R. Schumann, F. Chopin, R. Wagner, F. Liszt, C. Debussy, R. Strauss, A. Scriabin) and their categorisation in a larger historical context.

• the aesthetisc of a literary fragment;
• non-functional chords.
