doc. dr. Asta Vrečko

Asta Vrečko, PhD, is assistant professor at the Department of Art History at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana. She lectures at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana. Her work focuses on Slovene and Yugoslav 20th-century art, with an emphasis on the organisation of artists, the history of exhibitions, and cultural policy. In the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana she organised, in collaboration with Martina Malešič, the exhibition New spaces, New Images: The 1980s through the Prism of Events, Exhibitions and Discourses, and was part of the team preparing the 32nd Biennial of Graphic Arts Birth as Criterion and a member of the curatorial team of the Slovenian Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, with The Common in Community – Seventy Years of Cooperative Centres as Social Infrastructure. She took part in the exhibition and catalogue On the Brink: The Visual Arts in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1929–1941) at the Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana. In 2021 she curated the exhibition Ties: Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and Slovenian Artists Between the Two Wars at the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb and at the Božidar Jakac Art Museum in Kostanjevica na Krki. She curated an exhibition and monograph Outside the Frame. Art in the 1930s in Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana. She is part of the ARRS project resarch team Exhibiting of Art and Architecture between Artistic and Ideological Concepts. Case Study of Slovenia, 1947–1979 (J6-3137).
